Dr. Jason Gill, Associate Principal

I am super excited to serve as your Associate Principal. My educational belief is that all students can learn no matter what with the right support and a growth mindset. School should be a safe place for students to attend each day and they should feel comfortable sharing their needs as they grow as a learner. Students are most successful when teachers and parents/guardians work together to assist with their child’s learning. As the old saying goes, ”It takes a village to raise a child."

Remember to always do your best no matter what! I want you to remember these two phrases that I always like to share with others:

  1. “Today is tomorrow’s yesterday, make it count!”

  2. “Nothing is impossible because the word itself says 'I’m Possible.'”

I started my educational journey in 2001 as a 4th grade teacher at O.B. Gates Elementary in Chesterfield. For the next 10 years at Gates I taught 4th and 5th grade. I left the elementary level to teach 7th Grade Life Science for three years at Bailey Bridge Middle in CCPS. I returned to the elementary level in 2014 as the Dean of Students at Marguerite Christian Elementary with CCPS. After two years in this capacity I moved on to Chalkley Elementary as their Assistant Principal from 2016-2020 . I then had the pleasure of moving over to Hening Elementary as the Assistant Principal from 2020-2024. I cannot believe I am starting my 24th year with CCPS.

I grew up in Dinwiddie County, VA and graduated from Dinwiddie High School. I attended Richard Bland College for an Associates Degree then moved on to Longwood College where I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education (certified to teach grades NK-8). After teaching for a while I decided to go into administration so I received my Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Virginia (UVA) in 2007. I earned my Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from Virginia Tech (VT) in December of 2024.

I moved to Chesterfield when I started teaching and have called Chesterfield my home for the last 24 years. When I’m not in the school building or working on my dissertation I love spending time outside with my wife and two children camping. I also love to ride my bike, hunt and fish.

Portrait of David Leath

David Leath, Dean of Students

I was born and raised in NYC. My wife and I have three grown children. I attended and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Five Towns College in Dix Hills, NY. My master’s degree is in Elementary Education and I have an Education Specialist’s Degree in Administration, Supervision and Educational Leadership, from Liberty University.

I have extensive teaching and leadership experience, spanning more than 25 years. My teaching career began in NYC Public Schools in 1999. Upon moving to Virginia, I taught Middle School Math in Richmond City and Henrico County Public Schools respectively, and served as an Exceptional Education Teacher in Chesterfield County Schools.

Administratively speaking, I’ve worked in educational leadership in various capacities, over the years. Most recently, Henrico County Public Schools is where I worked as an Assistant Principal, before returning to Chesterfield County Public Schools in 2023, where I taught 4th Grade. However, my heart began pulling me to return to administration.

As Dean of Students, I believe that fundamentally all students desire to learn and live up to the expectations of their parents and teachers. Students will live up to what is expected of them. Behaviorally speaking, I often say that “if you don’t allow a teacher to teach you, then life will.” Students will rise and fall based on their understanding that their own choices determine how high or low they can fly. I thoroughly believe that, as educators, it is our responsibility to effectively train and prepare our students to be significant contributors to solving the problems that plague our world. My job is not to punish children, but rather to teach them accountability and make them owners of their own solutions to correcting mistakes. If I can help them understand a better way, they will increase in knowledge and choose to use that knowledge to make the world around them better.

The choice in coming to Falling Creek Elementary was an easy one. I will always choose the path with the greatest reward, which for me is to teach students that hardwork and dedication are the anchors for success. Partnering with the Falling Creek Elementary School community in making a positive impact in the lives of the students is my primary goal. “Hard Work… Dedication! Dedication… Hard Work!”
